What is facial / jawline slimming?
Facial / jawline slimming is a cosmetic treating using anti-wrinkle injections to slim the masseter muscle (bite muscle). It is a common injectable procedure and takes under 5 minutes to perform.
How do facial slimming injections work?
Facial slimming injections place anti-wrinkle product into the bite muscle (masseter muscle) whilst the patient is clenching their teeth. The anti-wrinkle product reduces muscle contraction in the masseter muscle and causes a slimming effect. Think of it like not going to the gym for months – your muscles slowly become smaller the less you exercise them.
The image below shows Dr Brown marking a patient’s skin before treatment. The masseter muscle is the main muscle used for biting and clenching the teeth. If you place your index fingers on the muscle and clench you can feel that it is approximately 2-3cm wide (in females) and slopes diagonally backwards, inserting onto the jawline.
Dr Brown has marked 5 injection points onto the lower part of the bite muscle which will be points injected on this patients. A standard patient has 5 injection point technique. Some patients have a slightly narrower muscle in which case 3 or 4 injection points can be used.
How many units do I need for jawline slimming?
A ‘unit’ is a measured amount of anti-wrinkle product. Most female patients need 50 units in total, so 25 units each side. The picture below shows a standard injection technique with 5 units injected into each point.
In Dr Brown’s clinical practice:
- 10% of patients use 30 units for facial slimming treatment
- 20% of patient use 40 units
- 55% of patients use 50 units
- 20% of patients use 60 units
- 5% of patients use more than 60 units
How much does facial / jawline slimming cost?
Facial slimming in Melbourne with Dr Brown cost $550 for 50 units. Some patients with stronger muscles use 60 units ($660) or 70 units ($770).
If you need less than 50 units then the cost is $12 per unit. There is no consultation fee and you can book an appointment in a few clicks.
